Project Scope

Definitive Design was contracted to design, engineer, prototype and manufacture feature upgrades for a handheld controller that measures the load forces on specialized bolts used on aircraft. The goals were to integrate ruggedization and usability enhancements while maintaining the client-supplied metal enclosure.

The Result

Definitive generated an aesthetic that conveyed ruggedness through signature elements. Along with a reference to Load Control’s corporate graphics, these features helped establish a unified design language that has been implemented on other products. To improve drop survival, a rubber overmold with accentuated corners was developed. User experience was greatly enhanced through an interchangeable hand strap and stylus capture element, allowing ambidextrous use and reduced fatigue. Definitive helped provide an improved, user-friendly solution for advanced technology.
