Marketing Needs

Life Recovery Systems came to Definitive Design with a request to refine the mechanical subsystems of the ThermoSuit, their flagship product.  The ThermoSuit circulates ice water in direct contact with a patient’s skin to induce hypothermia and prevent brain damage in trauma patients.

Engineering and Manufacturing Considerations

• Refine mechanical subsystems for optimal function
• Review and refine design for production, assembly, and use
• Support prototyping and testing efforts

Development Path

• Integrated Pro/E and SolidWorks databases
• Performed tolerance stackup analysis
• Created SLA, SLS, and machined prototypes
• Created urethane castings for clinical trials using FDA approved materials
• Followed multiple development paths

The Result

The ThermoSuit has been approved by the FDA and is currently being introduced through a number of test hospitals in the United States, Canada, and Switzerland.  It is expected to be used on over 10,000 patients a year in the United States alone, preserving brain function for cardiac, stroke, and trauma victims.
