Project Scope

Develop a quad cane with an internal folding step that allows the user to safely step half the distance of conventional steps for the leg motion impaired.

Development Path

• Generate new product and feature concepts utilizing “out-of-the-box” thinking including full height adjustability.
• Designed a patented compact mechanism for flip-out and retraction
• Generate form study models for ergonomic grips
• 3D CAD engineering including FEA to analyze product safety criteria and rating
• Developed a variety of attachable accessories
• Optimize design for efficient and economic off-shore manufacturing
• Create and analyze physical prototype models to verify functionality.
• Develop packaging specification for shipping
• Manage all engineering documentation for off-shore manufacturing.
• Received several patents for innovative features.

The Result

The Step-Up Cane provides the stability of a quad cane with the unique flip-up platform that allows patients to more easily negotiate curbs, stairs, vehicles and more.
